Tuesday, Jan 29 Guitarist James Reid performs Birds James Reid will present a faculty recital at the Lionel Hampton School of Music on Tuesday, January 29 at 7:30pm. He will be performing music from his newest CD, Birds, which was released last month as well as a new piece for clarinet and guitar. Reid and a colleague, fellow UI professor Roger Cole, commissioned Portland composer Bryan Johanson to write a piece for them last year and they will premiere the piece at this concert. James Reid was on sabbatical leave last semester and he used the opportunity to record music by Gwyneth Walker, Abel Carlevaro, Isaac Albeniz, and John Duarte. He¹ll perform Preludios Americanos by Abel Carlevaro as well as Mallorca and Zambra Granadina by Albeniz on his program. Carlevaro was from Montevideo, Uruguay and wrote some of the most unique South American guitar music of the 20th century. Albeniz wrote primarily for the piano but his music is often played on the guitar and it is highly romantic in style. Following the performance here in Moscow Reid will leave to present two concerts in Canada. For more information call the UI School of Music at 885-6231.
